My Goals

Ok, so I have decided to try and get back on the road and see if I can get on top of this run around Australia challenge. So now that I have made this decision I need to get started. So where to start?

Time to dust off my old running shoes and continute my run around Australia

Still some life in my run around Australia running shoes.

Well the good news is I still have the same running shoes. They are a little battered, and have done a few unrecorded km since I had to stop. But they are comfortable. So it will be interesting to see how they hold up as I continue my run around Australia challenge.

Now given that I have tried to start this run a number of times before and failed I have no idea at this point how I am going to do this. I do not know how my lower back is going to hold up. And at this point it is probably easy to come up with a long list of reasons why this will not work. But all this will not get me closer to my goals.

So what I do need to do is to focus on what I need to do to get me closer to my goals. Now the obvious first step is to start. The obvious first question is can I run?

So I thought I would start with setting down my goals.

My Goals

Long Term Goals

Now obviously my main long term goal is to complete my run around Australia. And for now, given my results over the last few years, it is possible but unlikely. So right now that is all I need, just to put it out there.

Medium Term Goals

Do Not really have any at this point.

Short Term Goals

Just to test the back out by having a decedent run. Not rocket science I know. I thought it best to start on the treadmill as it is a controlled environment. I started off slower because it has been a while. And I wanted to do at least 5 km.

Well it had been a while… As I ran I could feel it, really feel it. I was using muscles that had not been used for a while but I did manage to do better than I was aiming for and completed 7.0 km (4.3 miles). And best of all, my lower back was not a problem. Hmm… I might actually have a shot at this.

End of Week 239:- 7.0 km / 4.3 miles
Total to Date:- 1,710.5 km / 1062.9 miles

So time to dust off the old maps and start logging the miles, dust off the old blog and start writing again. Time to start working harder on my goals.

Time to start running again,

Steven

P.S. So here I go again. I am back on my run around Australia Challenge.

"I think that you have really set yourself a difficult long term goal, so go for it and achieve your goals. Your progress in your first year was really inspiring, especially given that you broke your leg and were out of action for 12 weeks yet still managed to cover 1700km. Good to see that you are back and continuing the journey. I look forward to following your"
